An interesting Weevil (family: Curculionidae) found while walking along the Emu River at Fern Glade last Friday. Notice the small processes/projections on the elytra. Total length 13.5mm
Hi Mosura Weevils like these big fellows are always interesting to photogrsph. Very weird the way their antennae are stuck so far forward. I have never known what the structure is called, so thanks for that. Loved the Platypus shots. In image 3 he is looking at you. Couldn't work out what he is doing with his tail and/or feet. Great to see it there, anyway. Denis
Thanks Denis - umm which 'structure' are we talking about. Do you mean the big snout - that is the rostrum. The projections I was refering to are on the elytra (wing covers)
Thanls Adrian - Yes some are but others you would not know were even there.
Thanks Mosura. Rostrum - Yes, of course. Thanks for being gentle with me. Didn't know what the wing covers were called (either). I did notice those knobs. I have never seen them on any of my local Weevils. Cheers Denis

Hi Mosura
ReplyDeleteYou certainly see a fantastic range of wildlife. That's some weevil! The Weevil's we have here are quite destructive - are they the same over there?
Best wishes, Adrian
