The Black-fronted Dotterel (Elseyornis melanops) is a small plover found in Australia and also New Zealand. They are usually seen feeding along the edge of freshwater wetlands. They feed mainly on insects and other small invertebrates but will also eat some seeds. The photos and first section of video were taken here in Tasmania. The last section of video was taken on a recent trip to Victoria.

DeleteGreat video of the dotterel. We occasionally see them out here on the coastal flats - the kind of places that the smallest migrants prefer. . But I have never been able to get close enough to really get good photos. Thanks for you suggestions about the kindle apps. They do work well but nothing is quite so small and comfortable in the hand as a real kindle!
