A few photos from the last week or so.

White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae)
Having a scratch
Tasmanian Native-Hen (Gallinula mortierii)Nest building
Tasmanian Native-Hen (Gallinula mortierii)Juveniles
Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor) I don't often see Swift parrots here. They are more common in the east of the state. These were part of a flock 0f 20 or so feeding noisily in the Blue Gums at Wynyard.
Swift Parrot (Lathamus discolor) ...another one. Not great shots but a nice record of a not so common bird.
Sooty Oystercatcher (Harmatopus fuliginosus) At sunset
New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae) A bad photo but a funny one :-)
Crested terns (Sterna bergii)Near Wynyard at sunset
Nice pair of terns, and kamikaze glint in honeyeater's eye!
ReplyDeleteAll nice photos - I especially like the juvenile native hens - and the honeyeater diving!
ReplyDeleteI'm voting for the New Holland Honeyeater with wings so neatly folded in its dive.

Thanks Tony - Kamikaze sums up their whole character the way they attack any other bird in site.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mick - There are still a lot of little Nativehen chicks around so these must have been some of the earlier offspring for the season.
Thanks Denis - Wings are neat but it still has the landing gear down :-)
